hey, this is a little reminder to put yourself out there even if you feel like your style isn’t ‘good enough’ yet
the quality of your content is always going to shine through more than the mechanics of it, waiting to ‘catch up’ isn’t always going to work
think of ONE who did One Punch Man and Mob Psycho 100, two hugely popular series
this is how he started out drawing:
ONE’s art style improved every step of the way! Especially for MP100
And it tbh didn’t matter that it started off shaky bc the story, characters, and humor shone through and made the content more compelling than the style itself
don’t be afraid to put your self out there if you have an idea you’re passionate about, waiting until it’s all ‘good enough’ may put off starting altogether, it may make it so we never get off the ground bc that day will never come
this is true for writing as well!
I had all sorts of spelling mistakes and grammar mistakes when I first started off with fanfic and short stories (sometimes I still do) but my work still became relatively popular because the dialogue was funny and the characters interesting
hell, this applies to academics as well, I once even wrote a paper for college that had quiet a few mistakes (I’m dyslexic so editing… isn’t my strong suit) and I still got an A on it because:
like, not to brag, but the thesis and logic of that essay made up for like… any of the other stuff
don’t be afraid to start!
I’m sorry for writing in the comment instead of tags. But.
I have always been told that art is “how” over “what”, style over content, and academia is vis versa. I’ve always been comfortable in academia and still hate the way I draw. My skills are still subpar after 5 years of learning.
And now I understand why. This idea of only trying to draw something I want to draw when I’m good enough to do that is keeping me stale. It’s a mind-blowing concept.
