If aroaces actually felt like addressing the root problems of a society that pushes the idea that everyone wants a relationship/family and that sex isn’t owed to anyone instead of insisting they’re the only ones who face these issues caused by rape culture and mysoginy (you’re not the most affected I promise bc for every aroace who reports an event like this happening to them, there are a hundred non aroace women and plenty of non aroace men to say the same thing) then MAYBE we would get somewhere in worthwhile discussions instead of yall claiming cake as “an ace thing” and telling 12 yr olds that not wanting sex makes them “unusual” and oppressed.

Have you ever actually checked what goes on in the ace and aro communities? Because I’ve been active in the aro community for a while now and both of those are issues the aro community fights against among other issues (for example relationship hierarchies in general). Stop spreading lies about communities you know nothing about in an effort to justify your hatered of a marginalized orientation.

Hey op what are you personally doing to address the root problems in our society? Why the fuck is it the responsibility of aroace people to dismantle the harmful ideals of a society that is actively marginalizing them? Are aroace people no longer allowed to have fun or make internet jokes because they should be out fighting the patriarchy instead? You know what’s helpful for doing that? Community. But here you are forcing them out of the larger lgbtq community and even ridiculing them for finding online communities with other aroace people. This is just lazy justification of your own prejudice and desire to feel better than someone who you feel has a less desirable orientation. Fuck off op.

op if you didn’t spend all of your time hating us and fighting us, then we would have more time to analyze the societal roots of our problems instead of being forced to defend ourselves against your attacks that we never invited and never looked for. But we do discuss about this a lot. Aro people are actively exploring alternative forms of partnerships (which you relentlessly mock specifically because they are not normative, and yet at the same time you’re there telling us that we should solve societal issues… guess what? We ARE addressing them, but taking part in committed, meaningful relationships while also defying the “traditional” entendre of relationships and human connections. 

Now, what are you doing to address societal issues? What are you doing to change society into a better, more inclusive one? And why should the crux of it lie entirely with us? Aro and ace communities are young ones because we just found a way to communicate with each other (before the internet, it was pretty much impossible to meet other a-spec people, nevermind communicate and organize with them). It’s well within our rights to discuss aro issues theoretically when we have no tools to make actual changes to our situations yet.
