Something that always irritated me about The Major from Hellsing Ultimate was his own belief and crowing that he kept his humanity.
Do I think he had any humanity left?
Or ever at all?No.
See, while he may have had the strength of will to remain a man of his own keeping, did not succumb to the seduction of vampirism and chose to remain human and not be a monster…. he was a monster, a perfect example of it.
Alucard was called a monster constantly throughout the series. Even called himself a monster. But really, he was more a distorted human feeling, abused and tortured distorting his morals and lead to him taking very heinous actions. More like he became a monster because he was told he was one so often.
So it made it easy to give into becoming a vampire. But the major.
Even before he clapped eyes on Alucard or Walter he loved war, pain, destruction and suffering. Witnessing it, causing it.
A person with humanity would.
The very best qualities that display humanity in people is kindness, compassion, charity. If the major ever had any humanity over the years and with each violent action is began to slip away piece by piece. Till there was nothing left.
Being human doesn’t guarantee you’ll possess or keep it.A perfect opposite is Seras. A vampire, someone that made that choice to become a monster yet she still has humanity in spades. Kind, caring, a protector of the innocent.
Anyway thats my thoughts….it’s been a while since I last had a proper watch through of Hellsing Ultimate so I could be off base here.
